Microsoft operating systems hold about 90% of the personal computer market, but it losing the market share. The company has been dominent is the PC market over a decade. While Microsoft was enjoying it dominance, its competitors have been able catch a significant portion of the market. Microsoft's market share is decreasing to Apple and Linux, while Apple being the next major player. People are increasingly going to other operating system due its price, and reliable. Even-though, Windows 7 is the most reliable operating system in Microsoft's history, but many people consider Apple's Mac OS X, or Linux as more reliable.Microsof will be losing its market share in the next few years.

Microsoft has currently focused on its new mobile operating system-Windows Mobile 7. They have developed this from scratch. Microsoft has spent billions of dollars on this. This operating system is facing major competition presently dominant Apple's IOS and Google's Android operating system. This is their last bid in mobile operating systems market.

Microsft has also focused on its gaming division. This year, Microsoft has release an updated version of Xbox 360, and will be introducing kinnet-a gesture based controller for Xbox 360. This will give Sony PS3 a run for its money. Their gaming division has been successful.

Even though, its market share for its operating system is decreasing, they will still generate large amount of revenue from other markets. If it do not focus on other markets, its revenue will go down greatly.
